You feel lethargic and bloated the next day telling yourself you’ve learned your lesson, but the cycle repeats every night. You start to build resentment towards your self-esteem and contemplate giving up on your weight loss journey for good.

The real reason you’re addicted to sugar

Simply put, sugar is the gateway to overconsumption. This is because sugar impairs your body’s satiety signals, driving you to eat more and store more fat. Your body naturally wants to over consume to make up for the lack of real sustainable nutrients it needs to feel satiated. Think of sugar as the “rose-colored glasses” in your diet. Once you take them off (a.k.a cut down on sugar), you’re finally able to feel and understand your true, innate hunger cravings that’s been masked likely your whole life if you struggle with obesity like me.

Since added sugar is in 74 percent of foods in the U.S. food system, this makes it (almost) impossible to fully understand what your body is telling you it needs (Means, 2024). Moreover, sugar in itself is an addiction and a dangerous drug that is normalized today. The moment I cut back on sugar is when I saw rapid weight loss results.

You may be thinking “ok…but how do I actually cut out sugar.” Believe it or not, there are lots of healthy alternatives to sugar that you can learn more about in my blog post: “8 Easy Food Swaps & Healthy Alternatives for Weight Loss.”

The Top 5 Easy Protein Dessert Recipes I discovered includes healthy sugar replacements you can learn to put into daily practice and curve your sweet tooth craving. Don’t you feel a sigh of relief knowing that you can still indulge in a sweet treat while meeting your health goals?

Here are 5 sweet and simple recipes listed below–plus, a FREE EBOOK available for digital download at the bottom of this blog post.

Protein Puppy Chow

Discovering this dessert recipe was an absolute game-changer. In my opinion, it tastes better than the original Puppy Chow Recipe. Once you start cutting back on sugar, your taste buds refine and you won’t even want the real “refined” stuff anymore (no pun intended). This recipe only consists of five ingredients and takes approx. 20-minutes to make.

TIPS: Some of my favorite chocolate chips to use in this recipe are from Bake Believe, which you can usually find at Walmart. Another suggestion is when you buy peanut butter, find an organic brand without palm oil (avoid seed oils to speed up your weight loss).

Also, I recommend Orgain Organic Protein Powder as it’s sweetened with stevia and has real clean ingredients that doesn’t make you bloated.

Protein Balls

Protein balls are not only so easy to make but they are very filling and keep you satiated–while curving your sweet tooth!

My protein ball recipe consists of only five ingredients which makes the recipe convenient when you are craving a quick dessert with minimal ingredients on-hand!

They are also an easy grab-and-go snack to hit your protein goals throughout the day whether it’s on the way to work or a late night treat after a healthy dinner (see full recipe book with 17 high-protein dinners!).

Chocolate chickpea truffles on top of parchment paper on a teal plate ready to eat.

Chocolate Chickpea Truffles

All a hot girl needs is a can of chickpeas. I LOVE CHICKPEAS! Not only are they high in protein, but they are versatile–who knew that including them in a dessert recipe could make the tastiest sweet treat?

This recipe only has 7 ingredients you likely already have in your cabinet. Blend that baby up with the ingredients and you’ve got yourself some truffles.

I love this recipe because they are high in protein and so rich that they actually taste like a truffle. Highly suggest this recipe especially when you’re in your luteal phase and craving something more dark and dense without the side effects of too much sugar!

Protein cookie dough with some strawberries in a metal medium mixing bowl.

Protein Cookie Dough

What I love about eating healthy and incorporating more protein in my diet is you can have a sweet treat for breakfast if you please.

Food freedom is not about restriction, it’s about satisfying your cravings with real, clean ingredients that contribute to balanced and sustained nutrition so you’re less likely to binge later. So, if you’re craving dessert for breakfast, by all means go ahead!

This protein cookie dough with just five ingredients is so easy and quick to make and it will help you hit your protein goals.

TIP: When you go grocery shopping, always grab bananas. Having ripe bananas on hand is convenient because you can sweeten almost any dessert recipe with a ripe banana (like this one!)

Snicker dates on a teal plate sitting on the kitchen counter next to a green plant.

Snicker Dates

Who needs a candy bar with 30g of refined sugar when you can make snickers with dates? I love dates because they have a caramel flavor and texture. They are a great addition to sweeten up any dessert recipe. I love to add a couple in smoothies too for extra texture and satiation.

These snicker dates are so simple to make and you will be SHOOK at how much they taste like a real snickers bar.

You literally just de-pit the date, add peanut butter inside, then dunk in some dark chocolate chips. Proof that healthy can still be delicious and nutritious. Enjoy every bite while staying on track with your goals.
