How to Stay Consistent & Disciplined

Do you feel like you’re constantly making up excuses for why you’re skipping the gym? Do you notice yourself giving up after one week of trying to stick with a new habit, then end up mentally feeling down about yourself? Well, if that’s you, the good news is you’re in the right place to learn what it takes to stay disciplined on your health and fitness journey. Believe me, I’ve gone through endless cycles of mental battles during my weight loss journey.

Everyone says that to reach your goals you just need to be disciplined. Like it’s some easy method for success and you’re outcome is driven by one simple word. I’m here to tell you that it is actually that easy. But first, what does it truly mean to even be disciplined? How do you reach this level of automaticity? In this post, I’ll be going over a breakdown of my four step model to better understand this mindset:

  • Action

  • Momentum

  • Consistency

  • Discipline

Action

Taking action is the first step to reach discipline. The simple action of showing up for yourself and moving your body creates new habits that make you feel increasingly better everyday which gives you motivation to keep going. An easy perspective to think about when debating on whether or not you should take action is to focus on how you’ll feel rather than how you look. Because when you focus on the positivity that moving your body brings from the extra blood flow, that positivity translates to how you look, effortlessly. If you feel good, you look good. Taking action also promotes a boost of confidence that will give you more motivation. Read more about confidence in my post, “How to Gain Confidence”.

Momentum

By taking action and showing up for yourself, the motivation you develop from feeling good then gives you momentum to keep going which drives consistency. Momentum is all about the fuel that fills your tank which keeps your engine running. You know what they say–objects in motion, stay in motion because you’re accelerating to a new level of discovery. This is one of the most energizing steps during your fitness journey, because you get a glimpse that you actually can do this.

Consistency

Simply put, action x momentum = consistency. Although staying consistent can feel tough at first, all it takes is small steps of showing up for yourself even if it’s 20 minutes of exercise, to give you enough momentum to reach consistency and complete the equation. Once you stick with these small habits enough to stay consistent, consistency then drives your discipline.

Mindset is key to staying consistent. My Mindset for Healthy Living Journal has prompts that will teach you how to become that version of yourself that is consistent.

Discipline

Discipline is just a level you reach where you don’t even have to try to stay consistent because the habit is automatic. Consistency x discipline = success. Consistency is the multiplying factor of discipline. Discipline means a habit becomes so integrated into your lifestyle it’s often times more difficult to skip. For example, I don’t even have to try to wake up early in the morning for the gym anymore–it just happens because i’ve developed the discipline from consistency which gives me success. Remember, “Success is a product of daily habits–not once in a lifetime transformations” (Clear, 2018).

Stay Hydrated, Stay Disciplined:

A specific daily habit that helped me reach this level of discipline is drinking electrolytes from Ultima Replenisher. When I started my fitness journey I quickly realized the importance of staying hydrated to recover from my workouts faster. I found that Ultima’s Electrolytes were a game changer since they have 6 key electrolytesto aid in hydration–helping you overcome mental fogginess and fatigue you often feel after a hard workout. Consume more protein:

Another daily habit you can implement to help you stay consistent and disciplined on your health and fitness journey is increasing your protein intake. Since the start of my health journey, I started incorporating Orgain Protein Powder into my daily consumption. I realized it wasn’t hard to consume more protein by drinking more smoothies and making tasty protein desserts to curve my sweet tooth. Orgain made it easy – it’s the only organic protein i’ve tasted with no chalky texture, clean ingredients, and that actually tastes good. Give Orgain a try and you’re bound to feel good AND look good, which will help you stay more consistent and disciplined.
